Weeks after revealing the possible name of Huawei's own mobile OS, China's national English language newspaper Global Times claims in a new report that it will have a different name for the international market.
According to its sources, Huawei's mobile platform will be known as "Oak OS" for the international market. In addition, Huawei is "intensively testing" the mobile platform and it is likely to be launched in August or September.
Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei's consumer business previously shared with CNBC that the mobile OS could be ready for use in phones and tablets in China by fall this year while the international version could be ready by Q1 or Q2 next year. Recent developments could have forced Huawei to accelerate its plans.
Synopsys, the world's biggest supplier of chip design tools, has stopped vital chip design updates to Huawei which will stall the Chinese company's in-house chip development programs and 5G ambitions. Facebook no longer allows its apps to be pre-installed on new Huawei phones. Google, on the other hand, is working with the US Department of Commerce to get another extension or an exemption from the ban.
