Over the last few months, Asus has announced and released a heaping helping of Nvidia-based graphics cards.

Most of their versions of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060, RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 4070 would satisfy most gamers and users but, for individuals who want a graphics card that screams that it is the pinnacle of performance and epitome of cool, there is only one option, the Asus Republic of Gamers (ROG) Matrix GeForce RTX 4090.

Currently, out of all the other versions of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090, this offers the highest out-of-the-box boost clock speeds compared to any other and features a bunch of cooling technology that gives users even more headroom to push its clocks higher, for longer.

Firstly, the ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090 features an ROG first as it uses liquid metal thermal compound that produces much lower temperatures when compared to traditional thermal pastes.

Liquid metal is an extremely conductive material and when applied improperly it can cause short circuits. However, with their experience and expertise, Asus has devised an ingenious method of preventing that from happening by applying a UV resin above the surface-mounted capacitors that border the graphics processing unit (GPU) die, and then adding two additional protective layers between the die and the main printed circuit board (PCB).

This not only enabled Asus to harness the power of liquid metal but also makes vertical GPU mounting possible.

That is not all though as liquid metal is just one part of how the card stays cool and quiet. The second part is a custom, extra-thick 360mm radiator that is backed up by a trio of ROG MF-12S ARGB fans.

These daisy-chainable fans are connected via a single magnetic connector that links the fans and transmits control signals and powers.

This makes installation and cable management a breeze as you will only need to hide just one cable. On top of that, these fans are able to keep the ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090 operating at just 60 deg C under its 450-watt TGP (total graphics power), with the fans operating under 1,000RPM.

With its custom full-coverage cold plate, the ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090 does not require an auxiliary fan as it makes contact with all the heat-producing components on the PCB, allowing the radiator to cool the entire card on its own.

A customised and more powerful pump feeds the radiator with more coolant than any of Asus' previous designs, keeping this card running at peak efficiency at all times.

Not only does ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090 stay cool but it also looks cool due to the all-metal GPU frame and housing. The card features a "hollow" chamber, with the main cold plate, circuit board and pump shroud protected by a larger aluminium frame.

The stainless steel backplate helps to keep the card secure whether mounted traditionally or vertically and lets you showcase this masterpiece of a card. Of course, the ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090 features customisable lighting in the form of lightbars in the central cavity and across the top of the card.

Last but not least, this one-of-a-kind hardware comes with custom-built software features.

Instead of just having a temperature sensor on the GPU die and also memory, the ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090 has additional sensors across the VRMs, chokes and power input circuitry so you can get a detailed breakdown of how the card is performing in real-time by using the Thermal Map feature in the Asus GPU Tweak III app.

Furthermore, this utility supports Power Detector+ which can detect any anomalies in all of the six power pins of the 12VHPWR cable. If an issue is detected and you need to reseat the power cable, you will know immediately.

The ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090 also features a new Mileage feature, which lets you keep an eye on what kind of load you have used the card for across multiple game sessions.

As of this time of writing, Asus has not announced the official pricing or release date of the ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090. But you can expect this limited-edition graphics card to go on sale in Q3 2023.
